Murder Victim’s Body May Be Flown Home

MarquesUNITED KINGDOM – The remains of murdered gay Portuguese waiter Alexandre Marques – whose skeleton was found in Caddington – are still in Dunstable but could soon be flown back to his home country with a police escort.
Mr Marques’ body remains in Dunstable mortuary despite the fact they were found on January 5.
Detective Inspector Tim Dobson from the Metropolitan Police, who is now leading the hunt for 61-year-old Mr Marques’ killer, said the body has been officially released but they had wanted to keep it.
He said: “I wanted the body reexamined to check fibres just to make sure we had found everything. That has been done now.” An inquest into Mr Marques death was opened by Westminster Coroner Dr Paul Knapman on Tuesday and adjourned until January 17.
DI Dobson, who said the police are no nearer catching the killer who left the remains in undergrowth at Woodside Road, between Caddington and Slip End, added that there is an elderly sister living in Portugal and police may arrange to take the remains out there through the Family Liaison officer.
Mr Marques is from Notting Hill in London and police have been stumped as to how his remains came to end up in the quiet village.
He was first reported missing when he failed to show up at a Mayfair Club where he worked in November 2005.
Brian Clivaz chief executive of The Arts Club where he worked said they did have a small service for him at the Portuguese church in Mayfair where about 80 people turned up.
He said: “We haven’t had an update from the police about it and we were rather concerned. It does seem a terrible tragedy.
“He was a very, very nice man and it was a great shock to us when he disappeared and his body was found.
“To have it flown home would be nice for his family.”
